Stiava extends to Appendix west of the hills of Mount Quiesa and Ricetro towards Montramito, composed of a cultivation of olive trees, vineyards.
The first documents concerning the location date back to November 29 994. In the village of Stiava the Republic of Lucca had erected a fortress to keep the noble duty of that county until the Emperor Federigo I to the 1132 order gave its governors the demolition of the tower. The church of St. Maria a Stiava in 1832 had 725 inhabitants.
